Away from the heart

Vedclass · Answer

(A) An artery is a blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart to various organs of the body. In the systemic circulation, arteries carry oxygenated blood, while in the pulmonary circulation, the pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs. Therefore, the defining characteristic of an artery is the direction of blood flow (away from the heart),not the oxygen content.
