(C) The cell theory was initially proposed by $Schleiden$ and $Schwann$. However, they did not explain how new cells were formed. In $1855$,$Rudolph\, Virchow$ first explained that cells divide and new cells are formed from pre-existing cells $(Omnis\, cellula-e\, cellula)$. This addition completed the cell theory, which is now known as the Modern Cell Theory.
