(C) Diatoms are microscopic, unicellular photosynthetic organisms belonging to the group Chrysophytes under the Kingdom Protista. They possess a cell wall made of silica, which makes them heavy.Due to their heavy cell wall and lack of locomotory organelles like cilia or flagella, they cannot swim actively.Instead, they float passively in water currents,a mode of movement known as planktonic or floating.
