Vedclass · Answer

(B) The correct answer is $B$ (Meristematic activity).$A$ typical root possesses four distinct regions:$(i)$ Root Cap: The root is covered at the apex by a thimble-like structure called the root cap. It protects the tender apex of the root as it makes its way through the soil.$(ii)$ Region of Meristematic Activity: This region is located a few millimeters above the root cap. The cells of this region are very small,thin-walled,and contain dense protoplasm. They divide repeatedly.$(iii)$ Region of Elongation: The cells proximal to the meristematic zone undergo rapid elongation and enlargement, which is responsible for the growth of the root in length.$(iv)$ Region of Maturation: The cells of the elongation zone gradually differentiate and mature. This zone lies just proximal to the region of elongation.
