Vedclass · Answer

(D) Sponges are believed to have evolved from colonial choanoflagellates. This is supported by the fact that both sponges and choanoflagellates possess specialized cells known as choanocytes (or collar cells),which feature a flagellum surrounded by a cytoplasmic collar. These cells are structurally and functionally similar, suggesting a common evolutionary origin.
