When raisins are placed in a liquid medium like porridge,the concentration of water inside the raisins is lower than the concentration of water in the surrounding medium. Due to this concentration gradient,water molecules move from the surrounding medium into the raisins through their semi-permeable cell membranes. This movement of water from a region of higher water concentration to a region of lower water concentration through a semi-permeable membrane is known as $Osmosis$.
