(B) The epiglottis is a thin,leaf-shaped flap of elastic cartilage located at the upper opening of the larynx.During the process of swallowing, the epiglottis folds down to cover the glottis (the opening of the larynx). This action effectively prevents food and liquid particles from entering the respiratory tract (larynx and trachea),thereby ensuring they pass into the esophagus instead.
