(C) Sweet corn $(Zea ext{ } mays ext{ } var. ext{ } saccharata)$ is a variety of maize grown for human consumption with a high sugar content. Unlike other varieties of corn that are harvested when the kernels are mature and starchy, sweet corn is harvested during the milky stage. During this stage, the sugar in the kernels has not yet been converted into starch, resulting in a naturally sweet taste.
