Vedclass · Answer

(A) Mammals are classified into three subclasses: $Prototheria$,$Metatheria$,and $Eutheria$.$Prototheria$ (e.g.,$Ornithorhynchus$ or platypus) are egg-laying mammals that possess a $cloaca$,which is a common opening for the digestive, urinary, and reproductive tracts.$Metatheria$ (marsupials) and $Eutheria$ (placental mammals) do not possess a $cloaca$; instead, they have separate openings for these systems.
