(C) In plant breeding, specific morphological traits are introduced to confer resistance against pests. Cotton varieties with smooth leaves and nectarless flowers are known to be resistant to bollworms. Bollworms are attracted to the nectar and the hairy surfaces of cotton leaves for feeding and egg-laying. By developing varieties that lack these features, the infestation of bollworms is significantly reduced.
