Pyramid of biomass in aquatic ecosystem

Vedclass · Answer

(C) The given diagram shows an inverted pyramid where the biomass increases at successive trophic levels. In an aquatic (pond) ecosystem, the producers (phytoplankton) are microscopic and have a very short lifespan, resulting in a small standing crop biomass. As we move up the trophic levels to zooplankton, small fishes, and large fishes, the biomass increases because the consumers are larger and longer-lived.This results in an inverted pyramid of biomass, which is characteristic of aquatic ecosystems.
